Michi was born with a special kekki genkai: Dark Release. Dark Release isn't passed on through genetics, it's just a phenomena that happens every couple of generations. Those who are born with Dark Release have no chakra nature and are therefore unable to use elemental ninjutsu. Also, they have less chakra than most shinobi. However, they have a unique ability to absorb others' chakra. Then they can effectively redirect their attack with much more force. However, they can only absorb so much chakra.

Michi relies on Dark Release on combat more than anything. She will absorb others' chakra and release it in a powerful, concentrated attack of pure chakra. Dark Release users have a small amount of their own chakra, so Michi has relatively good control over it. Raw power and strength are Michi's advantages, while elemental ninjutsu and genjutsu are Michi's two biggest weaknesses. Long, drawn out battles are not her forte as well.

Personality:
Michi is a submissive-realistic character. Extroverted and sweet, she's easy to get along with. Michi is resourceful and inventive; she uses scraps or things people wouldn't even consider. As a result, Michi is also a complete penny pincher.
Although all shinobi are quirkier than civilians, Michi is considered odd for a shinobi. She has a fascination with fashion and she has an extensive amount of civilian clothes. Being a bit of a ditz leads people to believe that she is of lesser intelligence. This is not so; Michi is bright and often picks up bits and pieces of information. One of Michi's hobbies that she enjoys a lot is collecting. Not collecting anything in particular, just things that strike Michi as interesting. Michi is easily flustered, and she has a bit of a temper. Instead of getting angry and yelling, she internalizes all of her anger until she reaches a breaking point.

Past: Michi was born to Riko and Souta Watanabe on September 12th in a small civilian village in the Land of Fire. For most of Michi's young life, Riko and Souta were opening up and operating their own business. It was tough economically speaking. Growing up, Michi felt a little restless being a civilian; she thought it was boring. Her quaint village was close to Konohagakure, the hidden village of the land. A day would not go by with out young Michi hearing wives gossip about some of the Konohagakure shinobis' latest exploits.
When Michi was nine, her parents' business really took off. They were able to open several locations, one being in Konohagakure. Michi asked her parents if she could attend when she was older. Her parents, fiercly loyal to the land of fire, didn't see a problem with this. As soon as Michi was old enough, she was sent to the academy. Her father dropped her off on his way to work and picked her up on his way home from work. Michi was in a smaller class, with more girls than guys. She was teased throughout her early years for being a bookworm and having odd hobbies, like collecting junk and fixing things. She didn't exactly fit in with girls, who thought she was too boyish, and the boys didn't like her because of her weird hobbies. When Michi graduated from the academy, she was put on a team with Akane Hinode and Shiori Oshiro, two friends of hers. After her graduation, her parents thought it would be best if they moved to Konoha to be closer to their business.
In the timeskip, Michi and her team participate in the chuunin exams. She loses to Akikaze Yamada in the preliminaries.
